What is a Worry Jar?

A year ago, my daughter began experiencing panic attacks that felt like something was physically wrong—stomach aches, fear she was dying, even urgent trips to the doctor. After tests came back normal, we turned to therapy. In that process, she and her therapist created something powerful: a box named Jerry. Jerry's job was simple—take her worries. She'd write her fears—"my friends don't like me." or "I need to go to the nurse."—on folded notes and put them inside. The box even reassured her with a message: "You've got this! Just breathe!"

When I found Jerry under her bed recently, it reminded me of how something so simple—giving worries a place to go—helped lighten her load. Today, she's thriving with many tools, but the idea stuck with me. A Worry Jar is for anyone—kids or adults—who needs a safe space to put worries down, so they don't carry them alone. Write what's on your mind, place it in the jar, and let it rest. You can revisit your worries later, or choose to let them go entirely.

My Worry Jar

Put your worries somewhere safe. You can come back later. Or not at all.
